ENHANCED BALLOT TRACKING
In November 2022, the voters of Michigan overwhelmingly passed a constitutional amendment (Prop 2) that, among other things, provides the right to a state-funded enhanced tracking system for absentee ballot applications and absentee ballots.
Doesn’t Michigan already have a ballot tracking system?
Yes. Michigan voters can currently track their ballots online at MI.gov/vote, but the constitutional amendment requires the state to upgrade the system in several different ways.
What enhancements to the existing system are now required?
The enhanced system must give voters the option to receive texts or emails regarding the status of their submitted absentee ballot application and absentee ballot. The enhanced system must also inform voters of any issues with their absentee ballot or absentee ballot application and explain to voters how they can fix such issues.
When will the enhanced system be available to voters?
The Secretary of State is in the process of upgrading the system. We anticipate that it will be available to voters in the second half of 2023.
